New Delhi, Feb. 23. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for serious efforts to make use of the state-of-the-art technologies – being developed at the six Light House Projects in the country – at the village level to build affordable houses. This is necessary to achieve the targets of government’s different housing schemes like PM Aawas Yojana, (PMAY), he said.
Inaugurating a webinar “Leaving No Citizen Behind,” which discussed about ensuring housing for all citizen in the country, Mr Modi said the uptake of the newly developed technologies in the urban areas should also be promoted.
The Light House Project is a scheme being implemented in 6 cities in India under Global Housing Technology Challenge -India programme. The project aims to develop strong, modern and economic houses using technologies developed in India and advanced nations.
Mr. Modi pointed out that a provision of Rs 48,000 crore has been made for PM Awas Yojana in this year’s budget. The target of building 80 lakh houses this year will also have to be worked fast to fulfill it in the stipulated time, noted the prime minister.
Revenue reforms and Unique Land Identification PIN
Mr. Modi emphasised on the need for the proper demarcation of houses and land in the development of villages. “Ownership planning is helping a lot in this. So far more than 40 lakh property cards have been issued under this. A national system for registration of land records and a unique land identification PIN would be a great convenience. We have to ensure that the dependence of the general villager on the revenue department is minimized,” said the Prime Minister.
He said the need of the hour is to integrate solutions related to digitization and demarcation of land records with modern technology. “I understand that if all the state governments work by fixing the time-limit, then the development of the village will get a lot of momentum. These are reformers, which will accelerate the pace of construction of infrastructure projects in the villages and will also encourage business activity in the villages. To achieve 100% target in different schemes, we also have to focus on new technology,” Mr Modi added.
