December 13, Varanasi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Kashi Dham, the first phase of Kashi Viswanath Corridor project. While the estimated cost of the first phase is Rs 339 crore. the estimated cost of the entire project is Rs 800 crore
The project aims to widen the streets of the ancient temple town of Kashi leading to Ghats (places for ritual ablution) and renovate all old temples in the temple town, which is arguably the most ancient and popular temple town of India. As many as 40 temples have been restored in the area, retaining their original architecture splendour , till now.
In his inaugural address Mr Modi said, earlier the temple area was just 3000 sq. Feet, but now, after the completion of the first phase, it has been enlarged to around 5,00,000 sq. Feet which can accommodate up to 75,000 pilgrims at a time.
