PM Modi lays the foundation stone of Delhi-Dehradun economic corridor
Dehradun, November 4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone of Delh i- Dehradun economic corridor which includes and expresway and a multitude of other development projects worth Rs 18,000 crore. Addressing the public Mr. Modi said India is moving ahead with the intention of investing more than Rs 100 lakh crore on modern infrastructure as part of Gatishakthi Project – national master plan for multi-modal connectivity.
The expressway is expected to bring down the travel time from the national capital to Dehradun to just 2.5, significantly lower than the current travel time of around six hours. The expresway which passes through Uttarakhand’s forests will have a 12-km long elevated corridor to facilitate free movement of animals in the area. Incidentally, the elevated corridor when completed will be Asia’s longest. Apart from that, the expressway also includes a 340-metre- long tunnel near Dat Kaali temple also to minimise disturbance to wildlife.
The economic corridor is expected to boost the general economic activity in the region and give an impetus to the tourism industry, esp the pilgrim tourism.
Mr. Modi said the total length of roads built by his government in the border states is severalfold the length of the roads built during the previous Congress led UPA government. Increased connectivity in the region has improved economic activity and life standards, he said. He pointed out that the flow of visitors to the pilgrim centres like Haridwar and Kedarnath have increased steeply at present giving creating major job opportunities.
