Can India protect public interest while implementing National Monetisation Pipeline?

National Monetisation Pipeline announced by the Government of India in 2021, is a major policy initiative on the infrastructure front aimed at leasing out major infrastructure including roads, railways, ports, airports etc to the private sector. Government says it wants to unlock the value and reinvest it in infrastructure projects, a euphemism for allowing private sector to collect tolls. But does India have the laws and regulatory mechanism to balance public interests with the interest of investors? Monetisation is here to stay. We need to have systems to ensure balance of interests.
