Vizhinjam deep water port to become functional in 2023

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 18. Kerala’s sea port Vizhinjam International Deep Water Multi-purpose Port on the coast of Arabian Sea will become fully operation in October 2023, said Kerala minister for ports, Ahamed Devarkovil here today.

A review meeting on the progress of construction works at the port owned by Adani Port was held here today. He said a 220 KV power station which is part of the project will be commissioned in December. Efforts are on to source more rock needed for the construction of break-water being built as part of the port. While a total of 80 lakh tonnes of rock is needed, till now only 30 lakh tonnes could be sourced. The construction of gate complex of the port will be completed in March 2022
The target is to ensure that ship arrivals begin on May 23, 2023. Even the Ultra Large Container Carriers would be able to enter the port and berth. The Kerala government has decided to review the progress of construction every two week. The minister said Kerala government has ensured the safety of locals when giving green signal to the construction.
