PM Modi inaugurates 340-km long Purvanchal Expressway

Sultanpur (UP) Nov. 16 Prime Minister Narenda Modi inaugurated the 340-kilometre long Purvanchal Expressway here today. The six lane expressway, which can be expanded to an eight lane expressway in the future if needed, is built at a cost of Rs 22,500 crores. It has a 3.2 km airstrip at the stretch located at Akhalkiri Karwat village in Sultanpur district for emergency landings of aircraft including big transport planes and fighter jets. An air show was held on the occasion which was witnessed by the prime minister and other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said while laying the foundation stone of Purvanchal Expressway three years ago, he did not imagine that one day he would land on the same expressway. He said “this expressway will lead to a better future at a faster pace, this expressway is for UP’s development, this expressway is for the building a new Uttar Pradesh, this expressway is a reflection of modern facilities in UP, this expressway is a proof of accomplishment of resolutions in UP and this is the pride and wonder of UP,” said Mr. Modi

He said that the eastern part of India and North Eastern states, despite having so much potential for development, did not get much benefit from the development taking place in the country and the development of roads will bring in the much needed economic growth.

The Prime Minister lauded the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Yogi Adityanath, his team and the people of UP on the completion of Purvanchal Expressway. He also thanked the farmers whose land was acquired for this project. He lauded the workers and the engineers who were involved in the project.

The construction work was started by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority on October 10, 2018 and the work has been completed in a record time of three years. It connects Lucknow (Chand Sarai village) to Ghazipur (Haydaria village).
